Are you prepared for Christmas?

The festive period is full of distraction, holidays, nights out, mulled wine, presents, food and much more! However, some insurers have warned of the risks associated with the Christmas period and the resulting rise they see in claims.

Burglaries are rife during the festive period. Due to all that food in the fridge and all those presents under the tree, the value of your home contents will increase over the period but does your home contents policy cover you? Some insurers may automatically increase your cover whilst others may not.

A further risk to households is that of fire. Norwich Union has suggested that Christmas day itself is the worst day of the year for fire claims, with a 140% increase in the number of claims. Typical causes are fairy lights, candles and kitchen fires.

Of course, having a good time at Christmas is important and we don't want to sound like Ebenezer Scrooge! However, being aware of the risks could mean the difference between a costly or a happy new year!
